"The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism," said Powell, who served under Bush and is a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. "To redefine Common Article 3 would add to those doubts. Furthermore, it would put our own troops at risk."It's good to know that Powell agrees with me and my fellow Democrats, but it is surprising for him to come out and say it. Normally Powell is a loyalist, so he must feel very strongly about the issue. Strange, isn't it, how the Republicans that passionately oppose the Bush Administration's position on torture are all men who have served in uniform? Strange, isn't it, that given the lack of military men in the Bush White House, they don't seem to realize that they are putting our own troops in serious jeopardy?
